The plaintiffs said the Republican-drawn unlawfully packed large numbers of Black voters into a single district and dispersed the rest into the five others in numbers too small to enable them to elect their preferred candidates.

March 16 (Reuters) – An Illinois appeals court on Wednesday ordered the release of actor Jussie Smollett from jail while the one-time star of the TV drama “Empire” appeals his conviction for staging a hate crime against himself.

The 2-1 ruling by a three-judge panel noted that Smollett’s conviction was for a non-violent offense and said he could be released upon posting a $150,000 recognizance bond.

It was unclear when Smollett might walk free.

Smollett has spent six nights in jail since a Cook County judge sentenced him to 150 days of confinement plus 30 months of probation, ordered him to pay over $120,000 in restitution, and fined him $25,000.

Her husband, real estate developer Lee Miglin, was murdered in their home in Chicago’s historic Gold Coast district in May 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who was also responsible for the slaying of fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Despite maintaining his innocence, Smollett lost his role as a singer-songwriter in the final season of “Empire,” a Fox television hip-hop drama that ended a five-year run in 2020.

The recording featured them in a trio with the guitarist Red Allen. He was the only musician to be credited alongside the brothers, and all subsequent recordings would simply credit the entire ensemble as the Osborne Brothers.

Osborne co-founded the Osborne Brothers with his brother Sonny Osborne in 1953, and they remained the two primary members while a long list of supporting players moved in and out of the group over the decades.

Osborne was one of the most popular and forward-thinking voices in bluegrass music, and he combined the insular musical style with elements of rock and homeschooling high school boys roll, pop and country music at a time when those influences were considered suspect.
